Delhi Metro is introducing contactless ticketing system for their passengers

Image Source: Internet  New Delhi, India (Metro Rail today) : The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will soon introduce an upgraded contactless ticketing system under a new system called near-field communication (NFC), according to the reports it will make smartphones act as Metro smart cards. This will enable passengers to pay for their journeys through their debit and credit cards, near-field communication, QR code-based ticketing mobile phones and paper QR tickets apart from the smart cards. This facility is currently available only on the Airport Express Line in the Capital. The DMRC will soon install automatic fare machines (AFC) system at 44 Metro stations in Delhi during the fourth phase. Apart from this, the AFC gates installed at the existing station will also be updated. Commuters will have to bring their phone close to the automatic fare collection (AFC) gate to gain entry. DMRC has successfully introduced the facility of free high speed wifi service from all Metro stations of its Yellow Line (i.e, Line-2 from HUDA City Centre to Samaypur Badli) from October 17,2021.  This service, coinciding with the start of festival season, is launched on this Line which consists of 37 Metro stations and runs mostly underground through one of the most congested parts of Delhi covering outer Delhi, north Delhi through central Delhi and south Delhi and finally Gurugram. More than 330 access points have been installed at these 37 stations to provide uninterpreted internet access to the commuters. 8 firms bid for underground construction contract for Kanpur Metro

Image Source: Internet Srinagar, India (Metro Rail Today) : On October14,2021, Hardeep Singh Puri (Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister and Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, MoHUA) said that the metro rail project in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) would be approved by next week. Notably, the Jammu and Kashmir government has submitted a final Detailed Project Reports (DPR) of Rs. 10,599 crores for the metro rail projects in Jammu and Srinagar the MoHUA for approval on 19th September 2021. It is expected that the project will be completed by December 2024. Earlier, the MoHUA has researched the passengers per hour per direction feasibility of the Light Rail Metro system given the economic viability. Following this, RITES Ltd shared a revised DPR and recommended Metro lite instead of Light Rail Metro, costing Rs. 10,599 crores. Three firms in the competition to construct phase 2 of Chennai Metro

  Image Source: Internet Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today):  Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has opened technical bids of Rolling Stock contract package for phase-2 on 30th September 2021. A total of three bidders have submitted their bids for the supply of 78 coaches, 26 train seats for the corridor-4 project of Chennai Metro. The project includes Design, Manufacture, Testing, Commissioning of standard gauge metro rolling stock and training of personnel for phase-2.  The competitors for this project are Alstom Transport India, Titagarh Wagons Ltd. and BEML Ltd. Tender notice for this project was issued on December 2020. CMRL will procure 540 coaches for phase-2 corridors. Image Source: Internet Bangalore, India (Metro Rail Today) : On the 10th year of operations of city’s Metro, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), is said to be launching the much-awaited National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) on October 21.  BMRCL is all set to launch ‘One Nation, One Card’ with 25,000 cards ordered in its first batch. However, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is not yet ready to offer the facility to commuters.  Anjum Parwez ( Managing Director of BMRCL) said,  The utility of the card, based on the Rupay payment system, is that it can be used on all Metro networks, buses, parking, and retail shopping.The Automatic Fare Collection gates at our Phase-I stations have been retrofitted to accept the NCMC card. About 90 % of the track casting work on Central Avenue is over

Image Source: Internet  Nagpur, India (Metro Rail Today) : As the work on the longest Balanced Cantilever in Maharashtra near Anand Talkies is complete, the track work in Reach-IV has also reached a crucial stage. A little over 10 % of track casting work remains to be completed and it will be finished soon. Reach-IV section is proposed to be ready by December end.  The Reach-IV which stretches from Sitabuldi Interchange to Prajapati Nagar Metro Station has a track length of 16,050 meters (inclusive of up and down lines). Of this, 14,208 meter track has been laid while 1,848 meter remains. In other words, track casting work of this Reach is now 88.5% over and the balance portion will be finished soon.  Reach IV starts from Sitabuldi and goes up to Prajapati Nagar near Wardhaman Nagar in East Nagpur after passing through Cotton Market, Nagpur Railway Station and Central Avenue. NCMC falls under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘One Nation One Card’ initiative. According to a report, the Automatic Fare Collection Gate (AFC) gates at metro stations are being upgraded in a phased manner. DMRC has begun the process of purchasing new AFC gates for Phase IV stations and also upgrading thousands of AFC gates installed at stations in existing Metro corridors (Phase I, Phase II and Phase III metro lines). A total of Rs 411.61 crore will be spent on this scheme. Once the software's are installed in AFC gates at all stations, NCMC will be implemented simultaneously on the existing eight metro corridors. Pune Metro's first coach arrives from Italy in Mumbai

Pune, India (Metro Rail Today) : The first metro coach for Pune Metro arrived from Italy to Mumbai by sea on Wednesday. The metro coach will arrive in Pune after clearing customs formalities. Pune Metro has given an order for 34 metro trains which have three coaches each and a total of 102 coaches. Pune metro is currently using Nagpur's metro for trails.  According to the Maha Metro Press release, Initially trains in Pune Metro will consist of three coaches which will be subsequently converted into six coaches as per traffic requirement. These coaches would be fully air-conditioned and have a digital route and station display. The coaches will have 100 per cent CCTV coverage. Nagpur Metro stops construction as promise funds to Maha Metro is not fulfilled

Image Source: Internet  Nagpur, India (Metro Rail Today) : In a major setback for the city, the work of Indora and Cotton Market metro stations has come to a halt as Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) have not paid the promise funds to Maha Metro.  As per the three party agreement, NIT and NMC had promised 5% share each in the Rs 8,680 crore phase-I of Nagpur metro project. which comes to Rs 434 crore each. Out of the total Rs 868 crore, the local urban bodies are yet to pay Rs 555 crore to Maha Metro. As per the agreement, NMC has to pay Rs 73 crore in cash while NIT has to pay out Rs 83 crore. A source of Maha Metro said, Overall, NIT has to pay Rs 189 crore to Maha Metro while NMC’s pending share is Rs 366 crore. Both NMC and NIT have not paid the agency any significant amount in cash. Sinkhole opens up while metro tunneling work in Bangalore

Image Source: Internet  Bangalore, India (Metro Rail Today) : A sinkhole of about 30 feet deep appeared on Tannery Road in Bengaluru metro during tunnelling work at just 100 metres away from the alignment of the underground tunnel of Bangalore Metro.  The metro officials have immediately evacuated all the residents of a building on the property where a sinkhole appeared. The building was not damaged and no one was injured.  BL Yashwanth Chavan ( BMRCL chief public relations officer) said,  On Thursday during tunneling work by tunnel boring machine(TBM) Bhadra, a sink hole appeared at about 100m from Venkateshpura metro Underground station towards Tannery Road metro station at around 7.30 am. On inspection it appears that this was an old open well which was closed on which the building exists. Rail Vikas Nigam gets another contract for Indore Metro Rail Project

Image Source: Internet Indore, India (Metro Rail Today) : Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) announces that it has secured a contract from the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (MPMRC) worth Rs 381.95 crore on Tuesday. The contract is for designing and construction of seven elevated metro rail stations including viaduct portion within the stations and transition spans on either side of the stations, entry- exit structures, architectural finishes, electrical and mechanical (E&M) works etc of Indore Metro Rail Project. Rail Vikas Nigam is an organization associated with Indian Railways involved in building rail infrastructure required by the railways. As of 30 June 2021, the Government held 78.2% stake in the company. On a combine basis, the company posted a 64% jump in the net profit to Rs 232 crore on a 32.9% rise in net sales to Rs 3,869 crore in Q1 FY22 over Q1 FY21.
